UniKL SkillSwap: Cookie Policy

This Cookie Policy explains how UniKL SkillSwap uses cookies and similar tracking technologies to improve your experience on our platform. As a student design project developed for the UniKL MIIT community, we prioritize transparency regarding the data we store on your device.

1. What are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files that are stored on your computer or mobile device when you visit a website. They allow the platform to "remember" your actions and preferences (such as login credentials and display settings) over a period of time, so you don't have to re-enter them whenever you return to the site or browse from one page to another.

2. How We Use Cookies

Our platform utilizes cookies for several essential purposes:

  • Authentication & Security: We use cookies to identify you when you log in to your dashboard. These cookies are essential for maintaining your secure session and validating your UniKL Student ID.

  • Session Management: To facilitate a smooth "swift passage" from the skill-matching page to the AI-tutor interface, we use session cookies that expire once you close your browser.

  • Personalization: Cookies help us remember your skill preferences and whether you have already interacted with the AI Tutor for a specific technical challenge.

  • System Integrity: We use the XSRF-TOKEN cookie (provided by the Laravel framework) to protect the platform against Cross-Site Request Forgery attacks.

3. Types of Cookies Used

  • Strictly Necessary Cookies: These are essential for the website to function properly. Without these cookies, services like secure login and the LMS Lite tracking cannot be provided.

  • Functional Cookies: These enable the platform to provide enhanced functionality, such as remembering your language preferences or your progress in an active skill session.

  • Third-Party Cookies: While we aim for a closed-loop system, we may use third-party cookies (e.g., via the REST API for AI services) to provide the real-time tutoring features.

4. Your Choices Regarding Cookies

You have the right to decide whether to accept or reject cookies:

  • Cookie Consent Banner: Upon your first visit, a banner will appear asking for your consent. You can choose to "Accept All" or manage your preferences.

  • Browser Settings: You can set or amend your web browser controls to accept or refuse cookies. If you choose to reject strictly necessary cookies, you may still use our website, though your access to certain features (like the Student Dashboard) will be restricted.

5. Updates to This Policy

As this project evolves under the supervision of Ts. Faridah Yahya, we may update this policy to reflect changes in the cookies we use for operational, legal, or regulatory reasons. Please revisit this page regularly to stay informed about our use of cookies.
