The Story Behind the Project UniKL SkillSwap was born from a simple observation: our campus is filled with talented individuals—from coding wizards and graphic designers to master communicators—yet there was no easy way for these students to find each other. Traditional learning is often solitary or costly. We wanted to create a space that breaks these barriers. By combining Peer-to-Peer (P2P) learning with modern AI technology, we’ve built a platform where UniKL students can exchange expertise directly, supported by an AI tutor that ensures no one gets stuck during their learning journey.
UniKL SkillSwap originated as a core academic requirement for the IDB30503 – Design Project subject at the Malaysian Institute of Information Technology (UniKL MIIT). What began as a conceptual exercise in addressing the "knowledge gap" among university students has evolved into a fully functional, AI-driven peer-to-peer exchange platform. The project was born out of a desire to mobilize the untapped technical and creative expertise within the UniKL student body. Throughout the October 2025 semester, the platform underwent multiple design iterations—moving from basic wireframes to a sophisticated Laravel-based web ecosystem. The integration of a Rest-API-driven AI Tutor was a pivotal milestone, transforming the system from a simple directory into an intelligent learning assistant.
